Don't leave it up to the kicker

It was fun watching Stanford play the last couple years, but they were way too conservative.  They converted a 3rd down and made it down to OSU's 25.  They had a full slate of time outs, 50 seconds, and Andrew Luck.  They run the ball for about 5 yards and setup for a 37 yard field goal with 3 seconds left.  Color me disappointed.  It would of been great to see Luck go out throwing.  Congrats to the Oklahoma State Cowboys on their biggest win in school history, but there shouldn't be anyone clamoring for them to win the AP title, Alabama or LSU would of beat the snot out OSU.

I was witness to some great football games this weekend, Baylor/Washington, The Rose Bowl  and the Georgia/Michigan State game were all entertaining as hell.  In the NFL this weekend the Titans needed some help to get in the playoffs, if they could of beat the Colts two weeks ago they wouldn't of needed the God Damn Jets to actually play up to their potential.  I've always been a Lions fan, and I really had high hopes for the defense but they look turrabull.  I look for the Saints to drop 55 on em.  The good lord has seemingly stopped helping Tim Tebow win football games....or has he? It came out today Rashard Mendenhall is done for the year (ACL), the Broncos are gonna be my upset pick.

I watched Brock Lesnar get knocked the fuck out.  It was one of the better UFC PPVs I seen lately, not alot of big names but the fights were entertaining.  I wish I could remember all the fighters names off the top of my head.  Some people are rumoring that Brock took a dive, but I don't think so.  He just wasn't ready for Overeem.

Not a whole lot of pop culture from me in my first four posts maybe I should change the name.  Hard to write about stuff you don't give two shits about.  Though I would like to know what's up with Katy Perry and if she would like to go out with the exact opposite of the guy she was last with.  Watched the countdown with poor old Dick Clark, and poor, old Joan Rivers I mean Jenny McCarthy.  This is the most depressing time of the year for sure.  Football season is coming closer and closer to an end, Breaking Bad isn't coming back until fall.  The only TV shows I am looking forward to is Justified, Archer, & Louie. Thank God for the NBA and FX.

Thursday Night Bowl games & some good college basketball

Notre Dame blew a 14-3 lead against Florida State, a lot of Vol fans wanted Brian Kelly instead of Lane Kiffin and Co.  I think coaching is vastly overrated.  If you got the right kind of talent, Mack Brown can get you to the title game.  I'm not bashing Mack he is a great guy but he is not a great football coach.    Watching Baylor vs Washington, I believe Derek Dooley would benefit greatly from a dual threat QB.  Tyler Bray is a great gunslinger, and he might make it to the NFL as one of the top 5 draft prospects at his position, but if Tennessee wants to win they need a guy that make something happen when the pocket breaks down and can run for a bunch of yards, it would really help out the non existent run game.

In other Vol news, highly coveted recruit DeAnthony Arnett wants to transfer  closer to home to be with his ill father,  I have no problem with that, but i've heard there are other things besides that.  I have a sneaking suspicion  the loss of his position coach the great Charlie Baggett has alot to do with that.  If that is what it is I wish he would stick it out in Knoxville, we are gonna be an air raid offense and he will be very important to that.

I thought I would get to watch the end of the Rutgers/Florida college basketball tilt.  What does it say about the Big East when Rutgers, a low to middle of the pack team in the Big East can beat Florida, then again as I type Vandy is up 44-22 on 13th ranked Marquette.

Tomorrow doesn't offer much in the way of bowl games, I hope to watch Iowa vs Oklahoma.  In the NBA I told a'll yesterday OKC/Memphis would be game of the night, tonight will probably be Lakers vs NY Knicks.  I am looking forward to watching the two best point guards in the NBA battle it out tomorrow night as the Bulls keep up their western swing against the L.A. Clippers.  It took me awhile to get back into the NBA after Jordan hung it up for the Bulls, but the game has started to grow on me again, and watching the Thunder last night  it's becoming clearer that Kevin Durant is the best player in the league.

BCS: I like that the clear number 1 will face the clear number 2.  I like that the clear number 3 will face Stanford, i'm not sure they are the 4th best but it should be a good game.  The BCS game I don't get is Michigan vs Va.Tech in the Sugar Bowl.  I know both fanbases travel well, but I would rather see Arkansas vs Boise State here.  I know it goes against BCS rules but it would of been a great game.  Here is a link to the forgotten ones of the BCS.

What day is it again?

I've never taken bath salts.  Don't plan on ever taking them.  I found the saddest comment section ever recorded on the internet when researching the drug.  I was gonna link it but it has since been took down.  That's a shame too.  Internet patrol, they wont stop Scientific Americans blog White Noise though.    Just a minute there and I learned OxyCodone is the deadliest drug of all...hope I never have to take them.

On to other matters

Sports world: Jason Taylor is retiring.  He has been around for a long time and I didn't get to watch him play much but he is a first ballot hall of famer.  Even in his later years he was a force to be reckoned with.  The NFL wants to have an 18 game season, but the players don't.  Why not meet in the middle and instead of 18 games season add two more playoff spots in each conference.  I don't know what I hate more than last month of non stop Tebow from the press or this weeks push for the Cowboys/Giants tilt for the NFC East.  I am also proud that the NBA is back.  It makes sportscenter way better,  the games will be great too once teams get a feel for what they got.  Good read from ox Sports  OKC @ Memphis will be game of the night.

Fandom & the Vols

I have been thinking about starting this up the last few days.  Drop a few paragraphs on topics and what they mean to me.  I hope to get some feedback, i've been on message boards for 10 + years and I hope a blog will lead to more stimulating communication.  This first blog is gonna be dedicated to figuring out what all topics I will cover.  Sports will likely be a lot of what a write but I will throw in a wildcard once a week.

I guess my first write-up will be about fandom and a team that I hold close to my heart the Tennessee Volunteers.   If you know anything about the Vols you know it has been rough & rocky sailing the past decade.  Only a couple of big time victories in that time. What i've noticed about the effects of losing is that most times it is contagious and damn near fatal.  The Nebraska football team a few years back adopted a losers mentality and were giving up 60+ points a game, & that loser's mentality usually comes after you play your best against a really good team that your an underdog against.  Somehow you find a way to lose a game you should of won and the bottom falls out.

I've witnessed Tennessee get beat like that three times in 06' vs Florida, vs LSU & the bowl game vs Penn State.  In 07' the losses were much more lopsided vs Cal, Bama, and the Gators.  Since then the Vols have went threw 3 Coaching staffs and the fans seemed poised to get a fourth. It would not be a good idea for at least the next 2 years.  Coach Derek Dooley is doing a good job recruiting for Tennessee, & if we bring in another coach it will make it easier for teams to recruit against Tennessee.  What player is gonna want to play for a coach that has no stable foundation under him.  Fans can do more harm than good sometimes.

This was a good test run, hopefully I will have a good topic to rant about tomorrow til then wait patiently.
